These notes are actually from the ptr, as the live servers aren't up yet in Europe, apologies for any of blizzards late changes.
- Black arrow is good, therefore resourcefulness is good, black arrow is around 5k damage unbuffed just from the dot, in a 4 minute fight without resourcefulness that's 8 black arrows, 40000 damage for 2400 mana. Add resourcefulness and you instead get 9 black arrows, 45000 damage for 1080 mana!
- Hunting party now only really needs 1 talent point, if you spend more than one then your paying 1 talent point for 1% agility, not that great.
- Sniper training, learn how to use it! you need to stand still for 6 seconds every 15 seconds to keep it up, so no you can't keep it up during the safety dance, but you can keep it up in most fights with a moderate-high level of movement!
- Sniper training can be active before the fight, stand still for 6 seconds before the pull and you have the 15 second damage buff!
- Steady shot glyph is out, explosive shot glyph is in!
- Other glyphs are the same
- Except that you now have to buy a second set of them for your secondary talent tree!
- Pet stable access anywhere! This is good with a capital GOO!
- The light blue wasps from Sholezar are now the same size as the firefly wasps, strangely the dark blue was is unaffected (not seen the orange one yet)
- I'm thinking of this talent and glyph set up
- I can now carry 28,000 bullets, the ammo vendor is complaining that I never visit him anymore, I think I may need to call off our relationship!
- Baby blizzard bear has a new icon!

So, is SV still the DPS spec of choice? Will we see another talent point breakdown soon?
what are you going to have as your second spec?
Bm is tempting, very tempting, buuut I wouldn't be able to have exotic pets without them costing me a stable slot for my SV spec which loses a lot of the flashiness of being BM... So I expect it will be MM or a more pvp SV build. Right now I'm not even sure if I'll get dual spec, I wasn't respeccing a lot before, mostly when new patches came. Then again its one of those things, you don't realize how much you use them until you have it. Personally I think its more of a boon for healers/tanks, letting them switch back and forth between tank and dps for trash/bosses, instances/soloing etc.
I'll see if I can do a talent breakdown, but that take time, the english servers have only been up all of 45 mins ;-)
Ya know , i think all 3 specs are about even , but if you want a dual spec from BM to MM/SV , your pet talent points are reset .
In order to fix this , have a MM/SV pet and a BM pet . When you change spec , be sure to dismiss your current pet , change spec , and then call your stable pet in , the point are still their
But i am running a dual spec, For the reason of Pet unfriendly fights . I could just switch out. Love to try this in Naxx where i know the fight , but in Ulduar , that is something yet to be tested.
You suggest only 1 point in Hunting Party, which is a 33% proc chance off crits. At what crit percentage would you suggest one must be for only 1 point in Hunting Party to be viable?
I'm only at around 32% crit, which seems a bit too low for a 33% proc chance to fire off of.
That said, if 2 points is more realistic for my crit rate, from where do I pull that point? No Aimed Shot?
@ Noah
your crit is a 32%, is that for any specific shot or in general? assuming its the same crit for all shots...
If explosive shot is the *only* shot you fire then every time you fire explosive shot you have 3 chances to crit at 32%... so that's an average of 1 crit per explosive shot, hunting party procs for 15 seconds so you have 2 or 3 explosive shots depending how and when hunting party comes up. So if you don't fire any steady shots then you might well need 2 ranks.
Lets assume in 15 seconds you do a rotation something like:
explosive shot, gcd ability, steady, steady
That's 6 seconds of rotation (if haste capped) and 5 chances to cause a crit that can proc hunting party. You will therefore have 12-13 potential crits that can proc hunting party in 15 second. At 32% crit 12 chances would equate to 3.8 crits or so. you need 3 crits per 15 seconds to keep hunting party up at 1 talent point.
Of course that's all on averages, there will be times it will fall off, there will be times it gets buffed on 2 consecutive explosive shot ticks.
I would say almost everyone should stick with 1 rank now, there is a case for taking 2, especially at lower gear levels, but 3 is completely out of the question!
The 32% is my basic crit rate, not specific to any shot.
In my Survival spec my shot rotation (pre 3.1) was Serpent, Explosive, Aimed, Steady and repeat.
I am also not anywhere near haste capped.
Two points in Hunting Party seems more sensible, I think, to keep the proc up (but I tend to err on the side of caution). But then where to take the point from. Pulling Aimed Shot and subbing in Multi is probably the most direct but I'd lose a mobile shot.
Thanks for the info Lienna.
32% is base unbuffed... So steady is 36% unbuffed and explosive is 36% or 40% unbuffed if you add the new glyph... Assuming the worst situation where you have no agility or crit buffs from your group and assume you don't take the new explosive shot glyph.
Your at 12 shots that count, that's roughly 4.3 crits, that's about a 70% chance for hunting party to stay up.
Add in some buffs and that story changes completely, leader of the pack is another 5% crit, agility buffs/bufffood/pots can add another couple of %, depends on which you get and master tactician adds 10% a good amount of the time. Your probably going to average about 45-50% crit if you get all your favorable buffs.
If you are still worried about hunting party (I hasten to add a lot of other classes now bring replenishment too) I'd say the best one to lose for it is aimed shot, but its hardly ideal, especially as multi-shot doesn't gain from sniper training. Its a hard choice as the SV tree has suddenly become quite tight for points, perhaps master tactician could lose a point if you don't want to lose aimed shot...
I am not seeing many Lock n Load procs with Black Arrow, and I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything similar, or is it just my normal /random luck.
Used to be 10% on serpent sting, now 6% on black arrow, both tick every 3 seconds, serpent sting can be up 24/7, black arrow is up 50% of the time (62.5% talented). Yeah were seeing less lock and loads these days, but the fact that our trap cooldowns are used for a much more profitable damage ability than trap dancing immolation traps makes up for the difference number wise.
One potential bonus is that the once per 30 seconds effect has been "removed". I'm not sure if it has actually been removed or if they just took the wording off and left it as a hidden cooldown, but in theory the age of the lucky lock and load streak is back.
I somehow thing that the cooldown is there though, I suppose there's on way to test it...
Just tested it, there not a cooldown on lock and load, double trapped a couple of dragonhawks outside silvermoon and both freezing traps procced lock and load in under 5 seconds.
Hope y'all have your 4-leaved clovers ready!
Odd, tooltip still says it is a 10% chance with periodic damage from Black Arrow and Immolation trap.
I think I am going to need a witchdoctor or something to get decent procs.
Serpent sting now has a 0%/0%/0% chance to proc LnL. You still do serpent stings to feed the obNoxious Stings monster coefficient.
I believe I read a blue somewhere that indicated Replenishment wouldn't occur from an ES crit tick anymore... (and for some reason, I'm also remembering it wouldn't apply to melee attacks either?) So I'm taking 2/3 in Hunting Party.
My choices if you're interested at http://hunter-dps.dungeoneer.com/2009/04/survival-hunter-31-talent-spec.html
Lienna,
can you pls explane to me how propertly work Wyvern Sting?
You have big CD 1 minit and then you have for moment +3% dmg? Thats not to mutch, it is not better use 4 talents somwhere in better place? ;)
I think i don't understand that correctly, thank you
riso
whoops, yeah lock and load is still 10%, its just on an ability that's up less, my bad, still were seeing less procs because black arrow and immolation trap don't have 100% uptimes.
@ KHELDUL: just tested it on a dummy, the second tick of an explosive shot critted and caused replenishment, so that's not happened.
@Riso: Don't use wyvern sting, its for pvp and emergency CC in instances to save a healer. For the noxious stings talent, the 3% damage boost is an effect of serpent sting, not wyvern sting! So keep serpent sting up 100% of the time and you get a 3% damage boost, simple as that.
thank you :)
riso
black arrow has totally thrown off my rotation. + I currently don't have any points in resourcefulness. rotation tips plz?
&& glyphs...is it really THAT necessary to get the 4% crit ES glyph? with 25 raid buffs my base crit is at 46% then with all my procs & whatnot during fights it'll go up to 60ish% for my base crit.
&& im thinking of going MM for pvp with my dual spec, but I'm at a loss for which glyphs to choose
/fail
any suggestions?

I'm not sure on Marksman glyphs, I haven't decided yet what to ultimately go with. Serpent Sting for certain (longer duration equals more ticks equals more damage from Chimera), but the rest are up in the air. Likely candidates:
- Chimera Shot (1 second off CD, this may be significant or utterly irrelevant)
- Aimed Shot (2 seconds off CD, more chances to proc Piercing Shots)
- Steady Shot (since Serpent is up 100% of the time, this means more damage from the filler shot, but not at all useful for pvp)
- Trueshot Aura (extra Aimed chance to crit, means more Piercing Shot procs, but TSA is overwritten by so many other buffs, the glyph may actually be rendered useless here)
- Hawk (more haste is good)
For pvp I'd lean towards Serpent, Chimera and Aimed just to be sure your biggest shots are available as frequently as possible.
thx for the help noah

Hey Lienna,
I've never specced into or used Aimed Shot unless I'm in one of my rare PvP runs.
"An aimed shot that increases ranged damage by 408 and reduces healing done to that target by 50%."
Is that +408 damage buff for all shots? I always took it as being just for that one Aimed Shot.
@furrymammoth
its just a buff for aimed shot.
aimed shot and multi shot do the same amount of damage, but multi is able to hit 3 targets with that same amount of damage rather than just 1 target.
the advantage of using aimed shot is that, since its an instant cast, u can use it while you're running. whereas, with multi shot you have to stop for a second+ in order to cast it.
as far as which to use on a raid boss, it doesnt matter if it's a stationary fight. but if it's a fight like heigan in naxx, where you'll be on the move quite a bit, it's nice to have another instant cast while you're dancing.
hope this helped

Also, Aimed Shot benefits from Sniper Training, Multi-shot does not. One important thing to remember!
